Social media is a major aspect of the world we live in. Whether it's social media for professional or personal use, we all worry about our profiles aesthetic. Social media can be compared to art when understanding the impressionist style.
Let's talk about impressionism.
Impressionism: a literary or artistic style that seeks to capture a feeling or experience rather than to achieve accurate depiction (thanks, Wikipedia)
We use our social media platforms to depict the "true" experience of ourselves or our companies. We leave out the ugliness or the boring facts about ourselves, while we try to showcase the important or interesting parts of our life. We refuse to use images if they don't fit the style of the other pictures we have posted or tend to judge other profiles for looking messy.
Artists do this very same thing. They find the style, media, and topics they enjoy or are interested in and tend to stay true to those aspects. They take images or ideas and paint what they feel or wish to see. These artists are then separated into categories. Contemporary, classical, abstract.
We are separated into groups when it comes to our social media. We can be categorized as artsy, sporty, healthy, goth, etc. Our followers and who we follow are based on these categorizations, even if you don't wont to believe it.
So, start thinking of yourself as an artist for your platforms and your profiles are a collage of your artwork.
